On the edge of Kenya’s arid savannahs is the Samburu National Reserve with the Ewaso Ngiro River running alongside it. Samburu’s game viewing is excellent with adventure and cultural activities to take part in too. The main attraction is the parks ‘dry country’ animals that are hard to find in other regions. Species such as the long-necked gerenuk, Grant’s gazelle and reticulated giraffe can be found here.

The savannahs and forests in Samburu make for a diverse range of game in the park. Samburu is home to all the big cats and is especially good for viewing leopards. The park also has a wide variety of rare wild dogs as well as a large number of elephants. This is an excellent park for bird watchers as over 440 species of bird can be found in the park. Samburu is also a good place to go if you want to see some of the rare animals that don’t frequent Kenya’s more well know reserves.

You can see unusual species such as the Grevy's zebra, the long-necked gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, besia oryx, and Somali ostrich. As well as going on safari in an open top vehicle Samburu also offers the opportunity to walk on foot and by mountain bike. You will also get the opportunity to visit some of Samburu’s villages and gain some insight into local life here.

There are a wide range of activities such as big cat tracking at Saruni Samburu, camelback safaris at SaSaab Camp and bush breakfasts where elephants do occasionally wander through the camp!
