The Okavango is the world’s only inland delta and is exceptionally beautiful. Lily pads are dotted along the floodplains and its islands have high concentrations of Africa’s big game. The flood waters start to arrive in May and as they start to spread across the flood plains wildlife from all around the Kalahari begins to arrive which offers spectacular viewing.

The Delta is split up into private reserves where game viewing is only available for guests giving you some of the most exclusive experiences in Africa. Safari camps in the delta can be wet, dry or mixed and where to stay depends on what type of safari experience you want.
Wet camps main activities are based around the water offering boating safaris even when the floods have died down. Okavango’s wet camps have some stunning scenery but the game viewing is not as good as in the dry and mixed camps. This is due to big game and predators not being very comfortable with the water but these camps do provide excellent birding opportunities.
The dry camps have the best game viewing and here you can find the Big Five as well as African wild dogs, cheetahs, hyenas and baboons as well as over 400 species of bird. Mixed camps provide the best of both if you want to do game drives but also want to explore the waterways and patchwork of islands along the delta.
To make the most of your time on the delta why not book into a dry camp and then a wet camp to explore everything the delta has to offer. The best time to visit is during the dry season (May-November) although visits between December to March offers excellent bird watching and is also the time of year when grazing animals give birth.
