The Zambezi River has 4 main pools named Main, Chine, Long and Chisambuk. The pools are the result of a channel of river which stopped flowing years ago. These pools and smaller pools which appear after the wet season hold water all year round bringing all kinds of wildlife out to drink during the dry season.
The ana trees that are dotted along the floodplain shed protein rich pods which are a vital food for many animals especially the elephant.
The wildlife viewing is excellent where you can see large populations of buffalo and elephant along the river as well as predators such as leopard, lion and wild dog. Kudu, zebra and impala can be found grazing on the plains whilst hippos walk by lazily.
The birdlife here is excellent especially for woodland and riverine species. You can see many native birds here such as eastern nicator, red-necked falcon and black-throated wattle eye.
While in the Mana Pools stay at Ruckomechi Camp with stunning views of the Zambezi River. Each decorated tent within the camp has both indoor and outdoor showers and access to a stunning infinity pool perfect for relaxing in after a game drive. In the evenings head out to the deck for some star gazing taking in the sounds of the park.
