The Selous Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in Africa but free from some of the big crowds that other reserves attract. The rivers and lakes of the park allow for a wide variety of animals including wild dog, buffalo, elephant, hippo, and crocodile.

The Selous is such a vast park but is still easily accessible from Dar and Zanzibar. The wildlife is unique with the park attracting a mix of Southern and Eastern African wildlife and over 400 species of bird.

There is a large population of lion as well as leopard and the park is also home to 50% of the remaining endangered wild dog population. The park is also home to good numbers of buffalo, giraffe, kudu, crocodile, hyena, baboon, zebra, colobus and velvet monkeys.

July through to October is the best time to visit with the greatest concentrations of game at this time.
