The Selous is such a vast park but is still easily accessible from Dar and Zanzibar. The wildlife is unique with the park attracting a mix of Southern and Eastern African wildlife and over 400 species of bird.

There is a large population of lion as well as leopard and the park is also home to 50% of the remaining endangered wild dog population. The park is also home to good numbers of buffalo, giraffe, kudu, crocodile, hyena, baboon, zebra, colobus and velvet monkeys.

As well as game drives the park also offers some fantastic boat safaris as well as some great walking trails at Siwandu, Beho Beho, and the Sand River Selous. There are a variety of options for visitors of Selous whether you want to do a fly camping trip, walking safari or camping out under the African sky, this park has it all.

For ultimate luxury and relaxation stay at Siwandu. Either of Siwandu’s camps can be booked in its entirety and you can enjoy the exclusive use of the camp. Booking the camp gives you exclusive use of vehicles and boats as well as its own manager and guides. Make yourself at home with your own private swimming pool, lounge, bar and dining area.

July through to October is the best time to visit with the greatest concentrations of game at this time. There is still a good amount of game throughout other points of the year in various areas.  During January and February you need to select a camp carefully as game migrates to richer feeding grounds, but the birding at this time of year is excellent.
